I bought a packet of brown flax seeds from Nature’s Farm at Northpoint today. I plan to start adding ground flax seed to coffee, Milo and anything that will taste good with a nutty flavor. It is important now to eat and drink healthily early in life while our bodies are still fine.

Flax seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids and omega-3 fatty acids are known to benefit the brain and heart. Flax is also high in lignans which is good for the heart and has anti-cancer properties, and is a significant source of dietary fiber. Besides flax seeds, I’m also taking fish oil also for the omega-3 but fish oils can contain contaminants and mercury hence the secondary flax seed source.

The pack is 500 grams and costs 4.55 SGD. Pretty cheap for something so beneficial!

I’m not sure if it’s comfortable if it’s been used. It’s probably warm, moist and smelly inside.

I placed an order for a bunch of parts from ChainReactionCycles around a week ago. What did I buy?

Shimano/Mavic Wheels

I got a pair of wheels using CRC’s online custom wheel configuration feature. I configured mine with a pair of Shimano Deore XT M756 black disc hubs, Mavic XC717 black disc rims and DT Swiss Champion Stainless spokes.

The feature is very similar to how you configure a Mac when you buy from Apple’s online store. They have all sorts of combination and you can select from brands such as Sun, Atomlab, etc for rims, Shimano, Chris King for hubs and a range of DT Swiss spokes.

Controltech Control Carbon-Alloy seatpost clamp

The quick-release lever is carbon fiber and the bolt is titanium. This little baby costs close to 60SGD, expensive stuff but in the world of mountain biking equipment, the most expensive thing is weight reduction. Besides the obvious benefits of weight reduction, I am also a sucker for anything which is matte black and made from composite materials such as Kevlar and carbon fiber. Link.

Fizik Pave HP WingFlex Titanium saddle

A high-end saddle with titanium rails, carbon fiber reinforced shell which means ultra lightweight, and an integrated clip system (ICS). I can use any ICS-compatible blinking rear lights, etc with this ICS saddle. The reason I’m changing my saddle is that my current saddle is uncomfortable and does not play well with my butt.

Ritchey WCS Rizer Carbon handlebar

Ritchey makes quality bicycle components and this handlebar is no exception. This medium rise carbon XC handlebar is reinforced internally to accept bar-ends and shifter/brake lever clamps. The carbon is laid in a way to provide torsional strength and vibration dampening. It looks really good too, because it is carbon!
